Germans may use this and the expressions above&nbsp;when something both surprises and upsets them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em>Was ist das denn?&nbsp;<strong>Das gibt&#8217;s doch gar nicht<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><p>What is that then?&nbsp;<strong>That just can&#8217;t be<\/strong> <strong>the case.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>And there&#8217;s also the phrase&nbsp;<em>Was soll das?<\/em>, which has a meaning similar to &#8220;What&#8217;s the meaning of this?&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em><strong>Was soll das<\/strong>?
