In many cases, this includes il trucco<\/em> (makeup). The noun il trucco<\/em> also means “trick,” so in a sense you are tricking the onlooker into thinking you have longer lashes that you actually do, or redder lips. The verb truccare<\/em> is used to mean “to put on makeup.” But the verb truccare<\/em> also means “to cheat.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are lots of nouns in Italian that are simply a verb or adjective with a suffix stuck onto it, in this case, rosso<\/em> (red) plus –etto<\/em> meaning “small.” In fact, you can fit un rossetto<\/em> (a lipstick) into a pocket! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mascara: That’s an easy one. The word Mascara is mascara<\/em> in Italian! In every profumeria<\/em>, there is l’imbarazzo della scelta<\/em> (too many to choose from). Just choose your price (il prezzo)<\/em>, the color (il colore<\/em>) \u2014 nero<\/em> (black), marrone (<\/em>brown), blu<\/em> (blue), viola<\/em> (purple).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La matita<\/em> (eyeliner) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It outlines the eyes in subtle or dramatic ways to enhance the eye’s shape, or even change it. La matita<\/em> is very popular with Italian women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
